Haven’t had one of these for a while. Any ideas as to what the occasion is here?

Judging by the presence of what looks like Danny Baker at the back, I’d say it’s a publicity photo for some London-based tin-pot regional programme – The Six O’Clock Show?

  2. Five-Centres says:

I’d say it was The Six O’Clock Show too. And it wasn’t tinpot, it was great.
But was Aspel in this? When I watched it, Chris Tarrant was your host.

Is it the Danny baker show ‘cardboard cut-outs of celebrities on London buses win prizes’ Never have Wilmot and baker looked more two-dimensional.

  4. Steve Williams says:

Indeed Asp was the first host of The Six O’Clock Show, in that unauthorised biography of Greg Dyke there’s a bit about the first show, describing a “safari-suited Michael Aspel gingerly facing the studio audience”. And, invariably, there’s a clip of him doing it on YouTube.

Of course, watching in Wrexham, I was always madly jealous of London viewers getting glamorous regional shows like The Six O’Clock Show and Sunday Sunday, which were like proper networked shows. Granada Tonight Weekend with Bob Greaves was no substitute.

  5. Mark X says:

Be fair, Steve. Also hailing from Wrexham, I know (as did everyone else in Granadaland) we did get Up Front with Anthony H Wilson on Friday nights. That’s still the only TV show my mum and dad have been in the audience for.

  6. Mark says:

If memory serves me correctly, Aspel and “The Bake” were on the Six O’Clock show, but Wilmot and Cheryl, I ain’t too sure…

Wasn’t it Janet Street-Porter and Sharma Parerra on Six O’clock?

In short, I have no idea about clippage – Telethon ’90?

  7. Xfm says:

I think it’s the Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse. Arriving by Routemaster.

Also, Granadalanders, let’s not forget the fabulous “Weekend”, fronted by Paul Jones and featuring the hilarious comedy stylings of Ted Robbins. His cousin iss Paul McCartney, you know.

  8. Steve Williams says:

I’ve told this story before, but my cousin was on one of Anthony H’s million other Granada shows, Flying Start, promoting his business – he invented the computer program that finds addresses from people’s postcodes, fact fans, which is why I’m still getting letters addressed to Cleethorpes, South Humberside, over a decade after Humberside stopped existing – and my auntie wore a bright orange frock which meant she could be clearly seen in every single audience shot. Mind you, it was a very small audience.

I remember when This Morning moved to London, Granada said they weren’t deserting Liverpool, as they’d still be filming Something For The Weekend, the Trevor Ward-fronted What’s On thing broadcast after Granada Tonight on Friday, there. So that’s ten hours of television a week replaced by ten miniutes.
